2019 Race Information

Important course update for the 5K, see 5k section below!

Below you will find all of the pre-race and race day information for the 2019 Spooky Sprint.

Friday Race Bag Pickup

We will again be having early race bag pickup on Friday from 12-8PM.  You can pickup your race bag at The Minnesota Website Company offices at 19 Main Street North in Hutchinson (across from Main Street Sports Bar).

We will have knit hats ($15) available for sale.  Limited supplies are available.  Please bring cash or check.

Saturday

Pre-Race

8:00AM-9:00AM

Race bag pickup and day of registration will open at 8AM.  For day of registration, please note that we cannot guarantee shirts or medals or timing chips.

Kids Activities

9:00AM-10:15AM

Kids activities will be available in the park starting at about 9AM.  This includes games and activities from Wheel & Cog Children’s Museum and TigerPath.  The Minnesota National Guard will also have their inflatable obstacle course, weather permitting.

Costume Awards

Judges will be at the photo backdrop area.  This is the backdrop that includes the Spooky Sprint logo, tombstone and library.  If you’re unsure if the judges are present, you can ask the photographer to make sure.  Awards will be given for best kids costume, best single/couple costume, and best group costume.  Winners will be announced through the sound system near the end of the 5K.  If the winner is not present, we will attempt to  contact the winner via email/social media after the race.

Breakfast

Breakfast will be west of the bandshell.  This year, breakfast will be a lighter fare with yogurt, granola, and bananas.

Breakfast is available for race participants only.

Kids Dash

Starts at 9:15AM

The Kids Dash will begin at 9:15AM.  We will call all kids to the starting line through the sound system.  Parents/Guardians are welcome to run with their children.

The course is approximately a 1/2 mile there and back style course.  The kids will run about 1/4 mile, turn around and come back.

5K

Starts at 9:30AM

The 5K race will begin at 9:30AM.  We will call participants to the starting line through the sound system.  The course is the same as the past few years.  The map is below.

5K runners will be chip timed.  Results will be posted immediately on the bandshell and online after the race.  Please ensure your race number is on the outside of your clothing to ensure proper timing.

Due to flooding under the Main Street bridge, we will be running east on the Luce Line this year. The course will be an out and back course with the majority on the Luce Line, paved trail. The turn around point is marked. Water will be available after the turnaround.

We will ask faster runners to start up to the front of the pack. We ask runners and walkers to stay to the right on the trail to avoid congestion as much as possible. Keep your eyes open from runners coming toward you. Try not to run or walk 3 or 4 across in a line. 

We will be crossing 3 streets, Bluff St, Arch St and Michigan St. Police will help with traffic control. Although the race is timed, if the police ask you to stop for traffic please do so.
